Silence

When neighbors were herded into cattle cars, and sent to be gassed there was silence. When students sat at counters and were refused service because of their skin color there was silence. When gay persons were arrested and prosecuted because of their sexual preference there was silence. That choice can no longer be the option chosen by those of us who are not the targets of rape, violence, bullying or discrimination. It is increasingly painful for victims when others shrug their shoulders and remain silent.Out of the rubble and horror of the Holocaust came two poignant words”Never Again”. It is our solemn obligation to no longer be silent when we witness any social pain .It benefits the victim when we speak, and tells the perpetrators that we will not tolerate their cruel behavior.
