Stan the Man Musial

When I was five years old my father took me to Ebbets Field to see the Cardinals play the Dodgers. The star of the Cardinals was Stanley Frank Musial dubbed “The Man” by the Brooklyn fans because he was a great player. After the game we waited and took the subway back to Manhattan with the players and I sat on Stan Musial’s lap. He was ever so kind and playful and from that moment he became my idol. One of the greatest players ever to wear a uniform, he was also a great human being. Stan died yesterday, and he will be missed not only in St. Louis but by all of us who had the privilege of seeing this hall of famer live such an exemplary life. I will never forget him.
